it is not spoken at all. i’m 16 and i got school and english lanuage is hated and nobody learns it anyway.

Either this is a joke site, a slightly immature one, or it is written by pro-Moscow, ethnically non-Latvian authors, inclined to white-wash the aggression of Latvia’s eastern neighbour country. That’s what one can conclude from the post where they bemoan the “denying of Soviet times”.
You may compare Latvia to Tibet: both have been under the rule of the totalitarian bolshevik regimes. Maybe it’s “hilarious”, “creative” or whatever for you to seek the “benefits” of the former or existing bolshevik systems. To me, soviet is tacky, tasteless and offending.

I’m not sure I agree (with the comment that implies) that pure Latvian ethnicity blesses a person with inherited moral purity and right-thinking. But I am of mixed ethnicity so I don’t have the right to say!
It’s very very good that you are doing something about having Latvia publicised as something beyond amber and wooden houses. I like your town reviews, like Cesis, and how to use the trains. And how about some history and lit reviews, like glossing some of the funnier folk songs (girls who trip and break their milk jugs) or the Livonian Rhymed Chronicle (which is not Latvian writing, but it’s interesting). I’ve only been to Latvia once, in 1991, so i don’t know what else I want to know about. You write, i read. If you want to email me, I have more to say or share.

I got a huge kick from your blog. Very funny.
I have been reading about Riga ,Latvia and I’ve decided to go. I’m interested in history, architecture and culture.
I’m White male American and I make my living from the Internet as a publisher and content host for other publishers.
I’m not one for nightclubs, or brothels or other seedy places. I was raised in a poor American neighborhood and by the time I was 18 I was as wise as 50 year old man. To avoid trouble do not go where it is. Very simple, works for me.
Latvia looks amazing to me. I’m going to go Kiev, and possibly Budapest Hungary. Those two cities interest me as well. I’ve done London a bunch, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels but now I want go into Northern Europe.

Some said you’re irish (the page owners). So, are you? Cause this is really what contradicts my information: “we are pure Latvians behind this blog. All we have, is a bit more sense of humor than our other brothers and sisters”.
I can’t argue with most of information, but, hey, lads, why did you have to publish this in such a visceral way?
Why Latvians don’t like to talk about Soviet times? The reason is – any political regime leans on people recourses, and still more than 60% of people inhabiting Riga are Russians, most of them hope for USSR to reunite and salve them form this non-communist territory.
Actually, I don’t see this blog as a threat to tourism movement in perspective, and all this abusive information just makes me more aware of the fact, that we need to fix up this place.

It seemed that when you were in LV, some old grandmother cheated you in market, also you get some HIV from one of thees cheep biches, cose you were too stupid and ugly to get normal chik, also i think in best club in Riga you didn’t get in only because of your fucking ugly face. I think i could made also some blog about Fucking Irish mans who come to latvia, cheating there wife’s and thinking that they are too sexy and too cool for Latvian girls. Well witch is the truth we have to look at with open eyes? Visual effect? Agree! No one denies that! But what lies underneath this visual effect? What are the causes? Is the poorness in Latvia only the mask to earn money? Do our pensioners have good pension, to stay home, to survive without going on streets to sell socks or play some music instruments? You have to bee some teenage-girl, who are still cared by parents and who have no idea of economical situation in Latvia, witch is the leading reason of this visual effect of Latvia!
P.S. And now I truly wish that you will get a sweet cake at your 60 birthday, to get more fat (that is as blogger says what awaits you around that age)! Just hope that you won`t have to wear a stinky coat and sell socks to have money for it! I wish that your cake will be bought by your children whom ( possibly ) will earn their money in another conrty!
